How to Have a Spa Day at Home
A spa day at home may not be your biggest challenge right now, but it is also a perfectly acceptable answer to finding comfort while managing your beauty routine. 20 minutes to shower or light a candle really relieves stress and is something we can all use.
However, that doesn't mean you need to turn your bathroom into an elaborate wellness center. A spa day at home can be as simple as putting on a mask or taking a relaxing bath to relieve the tension as you sit at an impromptu table (read: couch) all day. Also, if you have the funds, this is also a good time to think about spas in your area that have been hit by the coronavirus pandemic. You can help them in business right now by purchasing coupons or ordering some of their own products.
We later asked beauticians, spa owners, and other personal care experts to share their best DIY spa and home spa tips for you to try. Of course, nothing beats the massage you get at a five-star resort, but we'll take care of all the little luxury we can get.
Do a dry brushing session.
We often turn to Joanna Vargas, renowned beautician and
founder of Joanna Vargas's salons and skincare products, for her reliable
advice on glowing skin. Their spa treatments are guaranteed to help you relax
(and also benefit from beauty), and you can easily recreate some of your
favorite tips at home. “I love my Ritual Brush dry brush for a complete
exfoliation of the whole body,” she says. “Dry brushing your teeth increases
blood flow and stimulates collagen production, which helps to strengthen the
skin. It also significantly increases elasticity, making it ideal for
tightening and toning. "
She recommends starting at the top of your feet and brushing up towards your heart. “Remember to include the back of your arms and back,” he adds. Do this right before you shower and then continue with your normal activities.
Combine bath time and mask.
“After all my kids have gone to bed, sometimes I feel like I haven't been alone for a minute all day,” Vargas says. "Before going to bed, I like to relax in the bath and I like to combine a large bath with a mask." To make your bath more spa-like, add scented chamomile and rosemary to soothe and moisturize your skin. While it is soaking, you will grab a mask from your Glow-to-Go mask set. “They contain enough serum to heal the entire face, neck, and chest,” she says.
Pamper yourself with a one-minute hand massage.
“My hands have become very dry and sensitive after washing my hands lately,” Vargas says. To soothe them, apply Burt's Bees Lavender Honey Honey Scented Hand Cream just before bed. “Shea butter is great for soothing and healing overnight,” she says. You can also quickly massage your hands while applying the cream. This is an easy way to add a little personal touch to your night.
Make a DIY match mask.
Vargas has extensive knowledge when it comes to preparing face masks in his kitchen. “My new book, The Shining From Within, has a great recipe for a glowing matcha mask,” he says. "It strengthens the capillary walls and increases blood circulation, leaving the skin soft and soft." To do this yourself, mix 1½ teaspoon of water, 1 tablespoon of green or matcha tea, 1½ teaspoon of honey, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil, apply for 10 minutes, then rinse to get a moisturized result.
Choose a mild lip balm.
Lip masks are the easiest to make; just select an extra hydrating balm and apply it thickly before bed or when your lips are
chapped. “Right before I turn off the lights, I love to put on Sara Happ Lip
Slip,” Vargas says. “The weather makes me feel very dehydrated and I always
feel that my lips are plump in the morning when I show them a little love
before bed.
Light a candle the next time you bathe.
This may sound obvious, but when was the last time you
spent an extra three minutes lighting a candle before jumping into the bathtub?
“I started trying to slow down while showering instead of running after five
minutes,” says Glamor Senior Beauty Editor Lindsay Shallon. “One thing that
helps me focus on taking care of myself, rather than the dozens of Slack
notifications that come every morning, is to light a candle and take a couple
of deep breaths in front of it. Any candle that brings you joy will do, but she
especially loves candles that have a sense of personality. “As bad as I feel,
every time I take out this Urban Outfitters candle my mood immediately
improves. How could this not be?
